Perry was born on the 25th of July 1968 in Chicago In Illinois, she was the child of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mother in each of the two episodes she appeared on Roseanne. Perry did not decide to pursue acting as a career until she reached adulthood, as her parents were afraid of the negative impact stress might cause. Perry states that she did not want to be an actor in high school, but she decided to begin acting as a social activity at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. After graduating Perry went in New York to search for jobs on television, landing small parts in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led Perry back home to California which is where she discovered theatre work. In 2013, she was a part of The Other Place on Broadway alongside her mother. The father of her Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie with her in 2015. Perry was in nine episodes of the ABC crime thriller The Family in 2016. Perry played a prominent role in the ABC drama about politics Scandal which starred her father. In the same year, she was cast as a young character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again playing a young model of the mother's. The character was chosen via auditions having a strong connection with it.
